Kylee Randall - Business Consultant Toowoomba

Kylee Randall - MBA, GAICD

Based in Toowoomba

I never set out to be a Consultant (and still prefer not to call myself one). Although it wasn’t planned, I gradually worked out I wanted diverse and challenging work, so I pursued a “portfolio career”. A portfolio career allowed me to work with multiple companies at any given time on a variety of projects, ranging from General Management and Board advisory, through to Project Management, process improvement, Analyst and tech-related projects.

My background is in senior leadership positions in professional service firms, and I worked with Australian Red Cross in Cambodia mentoring directors of NGOs to build sustainable organisations. I was required to shift their outlook and business model from funding reliant to independent, financially viable organisations. My objective was to equip them with the ability to continue on without assistance.

On my return to Australia, I used this sustainable business focus in a number of senior management roles where I was employed to shift businesses in distress to commercially viable, successful organisations.

It was then that I reluctantly “fell into” the world of tech. I worked alongside software developers and data analysts on interesting projects across a number of industries. My roles ranged from project managing bespoke software development and working on complex integrations through to analysing big data in healthcare. I found myself being the translator between clients and technical teams. I then started dabbling with code to better understand the tech world (I call myself the “world’s worst coder”).

My industry experience is broad - it includes law, engineering, health, education, accounting, non-profit, agribusiness, local government and state government. My qualifications include a business degree, Master in Business Administration (Sustainable Business) and some minor training in computer programming. I’m also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

My focus is organisational performance. I don’t consider myself a “tech person” but I understand business and how tech can enable business. I also understand the resistance associated with new technology implementations. I can help you navigate this world by determining whether a new technology is the right fit, or whether the changes are better enabled through people and processes.

Although I don’t like the term “Consultant”, I cannot think of an appropriate replacement - I’m a portfolio careerist; I’m a freelancer; I’m just someone you can call on… I’m fortunate that most organisations I’ve worked with have come to refer to me as “someone they can call on”.

Kylee is available for consultancy or short-term employment contracts.

In my time with the Royal Australian Navy and on the rugby field, I’ve learned that success is built on continuous learning, a clear focus, and the backing of a strong team.

My naval journey began in the enlisted ranks and through reflection, adaptability, and a commitment to constant improvement, I rose to commission as a Maritime Warfare Officer, specialising in Navigation. Serving operationally at sea and in training roles ashore, I learned to perform under pressure and the importance of resilience, both personally and within the team dynamic.

Operational service defined my naval service, yet my role in training was just as crucial. I've treated every hurdle and every win as a chance to grow. It’s clear to me now that handling pressure isn’t just an individual effort; it’s about the collective strength and culture within the team.

Rugby union has been a parallel passion, where I represented my state and played internationally for the Australian Defence Force. Here too, the principles of strategy, collaboration, and relentless improvement guided me. Developing a strong, positive culture within the teams I've been part of has always been key. I believe a constructive culture elevates individual capabilities and leads to greater team resilience and performance.

As I move forward with my career today, whether it be coaching leaders, teams or on the training paddock, I bring all my experiences together to encourage and support others. My philosophy is simple: a nurturing culture and a mindset geared towards growth are fundamental. While there may be technicalities and tactics of coaching, I focus on imparting the significance of building a positive environment, personal resilience, humility, and the journey towards constant self-improvement.
